Since it was Labor Day: family times . . .
I spent time with my children and labored little today. We went to the Star Trek movie at the dollar theater–GREAT film, loved it, we all consumed large amounts of tingly soda and buttery popcorn–yum! one of my favoritist things in the world: movie theater popcorn. Met up with my oldest, John (24), at Rooms To Go because he wanted to show me his new couch–first new piece of furniture he has ever bought, big day for him. Went shopping at the Summit–a beautiful upscale, strip mall–much to Caleb’s eye rolling, heavy sighing, tolerance who who occupied himself playing his DS, with his elbows propped atop my large handbag I had given to him to keep safe since, after all, he was just sitting there. Grace was glowing when we left Belk’s sporting her “awesome” new pair of Yellow Box sandals. I had a bit of a glow myself as I had scooped a couple of deals on fall/winter shoes. Finished the day resting on an outside bench wrapped in the pleasant shade of a tree, with lengthening rays of sun warming our backs, slurping bone chilling Blue Raspberry and Frozen Coke Icee’s; that cooled our bodies and were worth their every moment of brain freeze.
Once at their home I teased Zac, (14), for still being in bed when I came to get everyone at 12:30 and missing out on a great time with us, groped my way through the dark to pop in and see my two oldest girls, Blessing and Sarah, each shadowy lumps, huddled on either end of the couch. They were working their way through a stack of movies in Blessing’s, what shall I call it? It’s more than a bedroom, she has the entire finished basement, so basically it’s her apartment–It’s beautiful with huge blown out windows, barber carpet, a full bathroom, and another bedroom she uses for her closet, she’s got it good. As we chatted my mind filled with slightly faded, but fond memories of my days doing the same with my cousin Corinne, ironically enough in her basement setup. (I would be amiss, and scolded, if I didn’t add a note to say, that my girls typically don’t do this, Blessing works all the time with her nanny business and Sarah with her ballet and studies, so this was a rare treat for them.) Passed and hugged Dan as he was just returning sweaty and content from being with his friend Brent–yes he chose him over us again. Those two are terrific friends, and I’m happy for him.
It was a little bumpy when I returned home and added my footware to my shoe clan. There was some initial snobbery, it’s been quite awhile since they’ve had to embrace any new members. I told them the story of Woody and Buzz Lightyear and they saw the light very quickly–my shoes are very bright, just like me– and began to make a nice effort to reach out and embrace them into the family. I actually think that they finally fell asleep, I haven’t heard any chatter for awhile now.
Then I turned to the computer and computed. Then blogged, now I’m done.
Night,
Theresa
